Someone actually went ahead and built a 1972 Volkswagen Beetle restomod with Tesla Model S electric innards. They then drag-raced it against a Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
Where an old-fashioned flat-four engine used to be, a silent powertrain slotted in with 456 PS (450 hp / 336 kW) and 675 Nm (498 lb-ft) of torque. This is not too far from the 527 PS (520 hp / 388 kW) of the latest GT3 RS, and the ICE car even lags behind in terms of torque with 470 Nm (347 lb-ft).
You might think that the supercar has a competitive edge thanks to its low weight, but this is surprisingly far from truth. At 1,430 kilos (3,152 pounds), the Porsche is not exactly featherweight, while the hot hatchback makes use of a custom carbon-fiber body and tips the scales at 1,050 kg (2,315 pounds) with the battery pack installed.
Both contestants wear Michelin performance tires, but the Beetle owner admits his ride lacks traction and is eager to spin up the wheels if too much power is applied too soon.
So, this looks like a close match… Which one do you think will win?
