Coachbuilding is a luxury business nowadays, so those who want a car like no other but lack the funds are left to experiment around in their garages. One such enthusiast from the United States went particularly far, building a Beetle tricycle with a Focus face.
We are told that the project was finished three years ago and that a 2003 VW Beetle TDI provided the basis for it. The car lost its rear end, receiving a tube-frame construction in return along with a single wheel and a truck-style upright exhaust.
The front end only remotely looks like that of the Focus, because of custom black doors, a split window in the roof, and lots of aftermarket components all around. The wheels fit poorly inside their arches, and the panels are misaligned in places – in other words, this is no professional job.
Highlights inside boil down to the tacky steering wheel and gear lever wrapped in bone-like casing. Orange leather on the seats and wood on the center tunnel go well with the similarly colored exterior, though.
Powering the Frankensteinian ride is its native 1.9-liter turbo diesel rated at 101 PS (100 hp / 75 kW) and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft) of torque. The odometer shows around 10,000 miles (16,000 km) of use after the conversion.
Judging by the Facebook ad, the car found a new owner for $7,500 USD a couple of days ago.
