Volkswagen AG will soon remove the legendary Beetle model from its Japanese lineup. The vehicle has been struggling in sales lately, dropping from 108,000 copies sold six years ago to barely over 60,000 in the last year.
The German enterprise said it didn’t even consider a suitable replacement to fill in the gap.
To those generally following the news, the announcement is anything but unexpected. The Volkswagen Beetle gradually disappears from all major world markets. You will be hard-pressed to find one in a showroom in the USA, Germany, Russia, and a number of other countries. Japan was among the last countries to keep buying the compact hatchback series.
In a final “thank you”, Volkswagen has launched the Beetle Exclusive farewell series. The cars come well-equipped and feature dual-color Nappa leather trimming adorned with diamond-pattern stitching. They also get 18-inch wheels, Bi-Xenon headlamps and LED lighting otherwise, unique door sills, climate control, and an advanced infotainment system.
