The fifth generation of the Volkswagen Caddy debuts in a compact-sized campervan form. The manufacturer used to give such spinoffs names like “Beach” or “Tramper” before, but the newcomer goes by the name “California”, just like its senior cousins T6 and Crafter.
The standard-sized RV will reach the showrooms this year being 4,501 mm (14.77 ft.) long. A long-wheelbase version of it (4,853 mm / 15.92 ft.) is expected next year. The main spec includes foldable chairs, table and bed, the latter measuring 1,980mmx1,070mm (6.5x3.5 feet). Modular tent, slide-out kitchenette and panoramic sunroof are listed under paid options.
The Innovision Cockpit comes with the optional digital dashboard and a multimedia system equipped with a touch-sensitive display up to ten inches in diameter. A total of 19 driver assists round off the list.
The 2021 VW Caddy California will ship with two diesel engines to choose from: 75 hp (56 kW) and 122 hp (91 kW). Front wheel-drive comes standard, but AWD is available in all trims.
