German speedways are a favorite among supercar owners wishing to see what their rides are truly capable of, but seeing a Volkswagen Caddy on one is new.
In the latest video by AutoTopNL, the star is an older-generation Caddy compact van with no displays or other modern frills. It looks like a model out of the early 2000s, a typical workhorse – that is, until you peek under the hood.
The engine there is a 1.9-liter turbo diesel driving the front wheels with 230 PS (227 hp / 169 kW) and 520 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque. While it might not seem like much by modern standards, one has to keep in mind that the original had just 90 metric horsepower (89 hp / 66 kW).
In the video, the driver turns the ignition key and then throws a switch under the steering wheel to launch. The additional gauges on the dashboard also reveal that the car is far from stock.
Make sure to watch until the end, you will be surprised!
