VW teases new California 6.1 campervan, promises premiere in August

Volkswagen AG has released a few teaser pics of its new California 6.1 campervan, showing the car from the outside and providing a sketch of its interior as well. The facelifted California will celebrate its official premiere at the 2019 Dusseldorf Caravan Salon opening in Germany in late August.

Beginning with the cabin sketches, it looks like the car will ship with a redesigned non-digital dashboard (digital available as a paid option), as well as a few new bits of equipment for comfortable journeying. On the whole, the inside space looks more modern and practical in the next version.

As far as the on-board tech is concerned, the Volkswagen California 6.1 will ship with power steering, side collision protection, lane keeping assist, trailer assist, and a special feature that would detect and warn the driver about sudden, strong gusts of wind.

The car will only be available with a 2.0-liter diesel engine producing 199 horsepower (146 kilowatts), as the company has no plans for offering alternatives.
