VW to unveil California XXL campervan in August

The German car manufacturer Volkswagen AG will attend a camper festival in Germany on August 26, 2018 with a hi-end van named California XXL. The motorhome is tailored to the needs of keen travel enthusiasts and costs around U.S. $79,000.

While the rest of VW campervans use the 6th-generation Transporter chassis, the new Volkswagen California XXL utilizes the same vehicle architecture as the Crafter van. This enables it to be almost six meters (19.5 ft.) long and come with a number of additional preinstalled options, such as the shower cabin. It also features a double bed and two kids’ beds.

The rest is being kept secret so far, but we can safely expect a TV set, a kitchen with a stove, a fridge, a washbasin and storage niches, a panoramic roof and a tent. All of the above is available in the junior models belonging to the California family.

The engine compartment of the new motorhome will likely hold a two-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with anywhere between 110 and 160 hp (80 – 120 kW) at its disposal. The transmission is going to be automatic, although manual is also possible.
