Back in its time, the Corrado heralded Volkswagen’s entry into the compact sports car segment of the market. The front-wheel-drive car based on the Golf Mk2 tech came equipped with four- and six-cylinder engines rated up to 190 hp (142 kW) and did not stay in production for too long – but it did stay relevant to this day thanks to tuners.
This specific VW Corrado derives its power not from a stock gas engine, but a brutally boosted 1.9-liter TDI PD unit. The diesel churns out a healthy 300 hp (224 kW) to the wheels along with 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque, which makes it at least as powerful as a typical modern hot hatch.
In the video, the elderly Corrado tackles several opponents at a drag strip. The acceleration may not look that impressive by modern standards, but the black exhaust plumes surely add entertainment value.
