Torsus rolls out a wilderness-ready truck chassis

Just a few days ago, carmaker Torsus launched an online configurator for its extreme off-road bus and van (we reported). Now, the company showed up once again with an announcement of a chassis you could use to build your dream car on.

The platform lends itself to a wide variety of off-road vehicles ranging from motorhomes to trucks and cargo vans. It originates from the Volkswagen Crafter, but benefits from robust skid plates, heavy-duty suspension and 250 mm (9.8 inches) of ground clearance.

Engine-wise, you can specify a 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel to slot in under the hood with 176 PS (174 hp / 129 kW) and 410 Nm (302 lb-ft) of torque. As an alternative, you could consider a more affordable engine with 140 PS (138 hp / 103 kW) and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft) of torque. Both are obtainable with six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmission. You can also specify an all-wheel-drive system with a rear diff lock.

Depending on your chosen configuration, the interior will accommodate between 2 and 6 people. There are three main chassis load ratings that you can select from: 3.5 metric tons (7,700 lbs), 5 tons (11,000 lbs), and 5.5 tons (12,125 lbs). The wheelbase can be standard at 3,640 mm (142 inches) or stretched at 4,490 mm (175.4 inches).

Torsus will begin registering pre-orders from January 1, 2022, and plans to start deliveries later that year. Prices start from €51,716. The video showcases some of the company’s other projects.
