Car atelier APR has finally taken the wraps off a project it has worked on for the past 18 months: a Volkswagen Golf R boosted to 536 hp (400 kW) and 642 Nm (474 lb×ft) of torque.
In order to almost double the output of the stock engine, the engineers had to equip it with a Borg Warner turbocharger, an intercooler, an all-carbon air intake system, as well as new fuel injectors and pump. They also did an ECU remap.
The team called the result “Golf RLMS”. The car now does a quarter-mile in mere 10 seconds and takes 15 seconds less to accelerate 0-225 km/h than its production version. The latter is only capable of meager 292 hp (218 kW) and 379 Nm (280 lb×ft) of torque.
On the outside, you will have no trouble telling the Golf RLMS from its factory version thanks to an all-new, racecar-style aero kit.
Other notable features include revised suspension, stronger brakes, roll bars, a roll cage, bucket seats and a fire extinguisher.
