The Volkswagen Golf R is quite likely the most sought-after hot hatchback out there. Alas, its engine power still falls short of what sports cars like the Mercedes-AMG A45 or the Audi RS3 Sportback are capable of. That is, unless you the sleeper hatch up a bit – just like HGP Turbo did the other day.
The team took on a 7th-gen Golf R. Once done, its 2.0L turbo V4 rose from the stock 300 hp / 224 kW into the far more respectable realm of 480 hp / 358 kW. You can challenge supercars to a drag race with a power like this! So they did.
The bolstered Volkswagen Golf R stood up against a Mercedes-AMG A45, an Audi RS3 Sportback, a BMW M3 and a few other cars in a drag showdown on an airfield in Germany. The drag distance was set to 1,000 meters (0.62 mi), and the cars started from a rolling start. Watch the video to find out how things went for the tuned R.
