German automotive giant Volkswagen has finally shed some light on the upcoming Golf GTI TCR, its best-performing production hatchback to date. You may remember that the car debuted as a concept in May 2018.
The mass-issue Golf GTI TCR will ship with a 2.0-liter engine rated at 290 horsepower (216 kW), a seven-speed DCT transmission, and a limited-slip differential in the front.
It should sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.6 seconds and top out at 250 km/h (155 mph) with the electronic speed limiter on. You may opt for a no-limit version for an additional 10 km/h (7 mph).
The base features include 18-inch wheels, wide side skirts, a GTR-style spoiler and diffusor in the rear, and black mirror caps. Optionally available are carbon mirror caps, a honeycomb pattern film for the sides, and a black roof.
Buyers of the new Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR are also offered an extended option package for €2,350, consisting of adaptive shock absorption, 19-inch wheels, improved rear suspension etc. Another €850 buys a set of premium wheels wrapped in semi-sleek tires.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR costs €38,950 and above in Germany.
