VW postpones next-gen Golf launch to late February 2020

Jürgen Stackmann, Sales and Marketing Manager of the Volkswagen AG, said in a recent interview that the next-generation VW Golf would arrive slightly later than expected, namely in late February 2020.

Apparently, incorrect functioning of the on-the-fly software update feature is primarily to blame for the delay. The responsible developer team is currently trying to iron out all the issues with the update mechanism. It also makes sure that it stays impervious to hacker attacks.

Since this is the first time Volkswagen AG implemented this kind of software in a car, it stumbled upon an unexpected problem while trying to obtain the necessary certificate for it. As it turned out, the responsible authorities never dealt with such systems before and therefore needed time to study and approve of the methods by which vehicles receive software updates on-the-go.

Despite the delayed launch, the new VW Golf is still likely to celebrate its international premiere in the fall of 2019, just as planned.
