Boost kit, tweaked stance: ABT Sportsline unveils options for the VW Golf R

The next generation of the Volkswagen Golf is right around the corner, but ABT Sportsline believes that it is still too early to discount the old one. The tuner just rolled out a range of upgrades for the performance-packed Golf R.

The hot hatch leaves the factory equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo-four good for 300 hp (224 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. A simple ECU remap results in an increase to 350 hp (261 kW) and 440 Nm (324 lb-ft) of torque.

Granted, others have managed to persuade that powertrain to produce up to 1,000 horsepower / 750 kilowatts, but ABT has never been the one for breaking records. At least this kind of tuning is quick, safe, and in most cases also relatively cheap.

The ABT VW Golf R also boasts spring and shock absorber upgrades along with an in-house-designed sway bar. The tuner reduces the road clearance somewhat, but you can still fit wheels up to 20 inches large inside those arches.

Finally, ABT now also ships a custom performance exhaust system for the model, which sports four tips 102 mm (4") in diameter. The company proudly claims it will win "the hearts of many" with its impressive soundtrack.
