The upcoming eighth generation of the Volkswagen Golf has been recently discovered on a public street without the slightest hint of test mule mascara on. This must mean that it will premiere very soon – most likely, sooner than the major motor shows kick off in autumn.
The most likely explanation for the public appearance of the Golf Mk8 was that it participated in an ad shoot. Design-wise, the model seems to remain true to the core brand values, while sporting a few fresh details.
According to VW, the new Golf comes based on an updated version of the MQB Evo platform used by its predecessor. As such, it gets a longer wheelbase and still manages to lose 45 kg (100 lbs) of weight.
The series will initially ship with turbocharged three- and four-cylinder engines (both gasoline and diesel). Hybrids will follow later, as will the performance trims GTI and R.
