B&B Automobile Technik felt like seeing what the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR was truly capable of. The hot hatch left the garage with 450 hp (336 kW) and 580 Nm (428 pound-feet) of torque under the hood.
The €12,950 kit includes an ECU firmware upgrade, a new turbine charger, a racing-spec cat-back exhaust system, a more efficient intercooler, and certain reinforcements for the stock DSG transmission. Once upgraded, the FWD Golf only needs 4.5 seconds to accelerate 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph). Its mass-produced counterpart (see video) only manages the same in 5.6 seconds.
There are other boost kits on offer, too. The cheapest one, Stage 1, comes priced at €1,500 and takes the 2.0-liter engine from its normal 290 hp (216 kW) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque to 340 hp (254 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft). The Stage 2 costs €4,000 and yields 360 hp (268 kW) along with 470 Nm (347 lb-ft). The Stage 3 promises to turn the VW Golf into a 400-hp (300-kW) hatchback for €8,000.
Should you want it, B&B Automobile Technik will also lower the suspension, upgrade select components to their racing-spec equivalents, and swap the stock wheels out for 20-inch rims wrapped in performance tires.
