Volkswagen talks about Golf Mk9 straight after revealing the Mk8

Even though the Volkswagen Golf 8, which just celebrated its international debut, is considered the most up-to-date ‘hot hatch’ worldwide, the developer team responsible for it just cannot afford calling it a day and taking a break. Modern times require constant thinking about the future of your products – and VW is eager to demonstrate the principle by talking about the next, ninth generation of its best-seller.

As you doubtlessly know, the Golf Mk8 will be available in ICE and hybrid versions. This may look like pandering to the trends, and VW is willing to admit that might actually be the case. It is now official that even the Golf Mk9, when it comes out, will be available with a selection of internal combustion engines.

The reason is simple: Volkswagen Group admits it cannot hope to make its entire product range all-electric even by 2030. In turn, this means that even the ninth-gen Golf, which is likely seven years or so away right now, will still ship in ICE and hybrid variants first and foremost.
