VW Golf 8 goes all-electric for almost 4 minutes

One of the major selling features of the newest Volkswagen Golf 8 is its capability to go all-electric for limited periods of time, thus saving gas. But how efficient is it, really? That’s what Tomasz Niechaj and friends decided to find out.

An actual road test showed that the new Golf could go 3 minutes 51 seconds in purely electric mode before running out of juice. Then the team measured the average fuel consumption of the car. It amounted to 4.4 liters per 100 kilometers (UK: 64 MPG, USA: 53.5 MPG).

Only Golfs with DSG transmission support gas engine on/off functionality. The manufacturer claims that reduces the fuel consumption by 10%, compared to the previous generations.
