According to Volkswagen Sport, the Golf eR1 you see here is a racecar concept that the company will be using to determine the efficiency of its newest electric motor system. If successful, the powertrain will be later adopted by multiple performance-oriented VW models.
The video follows the car during its test run at the GP Ice Race in Austria. Little is known about its specs, expect that it has AWD and comes based on the previous-gen Golf chassis.
The photos show what looks like a Golf clad in a widebody aerodynamic kit with a prominent rear splitter and enormous rear wing.
It is possible that the car makes use of a modified ID.R Concept powertrain, which sends up to 671 hp (500 kW) with 649 Nm (480 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels.
