Volkswagen R Director Jost Capito has announced two modifications of the upcoming Golf R: standard and R Plus. He also confirmed that the former gets 333 PS (328 hp, or 245 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque.
The newly announced high-performance R Plus remains a bit of a mystery with no official specs existing at this point. Rumors claim it will pack around 400 hp (300 kW), which seems realistic, and come bundled with six-speed manual and/or seven-speed DSG transmission.
The hot hatch series will also boast a new on-demand AWD system featuring the fifth-gen Haldex multi-plate clutch design, four-mode adaptive shocks, electronic diff locks, performance brakes, and an Akrapovič exhaust system.
The standard Volkswagen Golf R is scheduled for reveal at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in autumn 2020. The Golf R Plus should arrive by early 2021 or so.
