Volkswagen Golf R fans have long been yearning for the automaker to launch a special edition of their favorite hot hatch with the 2.5-liter, five-cylinder Audi RS3 mill under the hood. The company never did, but this is where a tuner came in.
TheTurboEngineers (TTE) successfully transplanted the 400-horsepower (300-kW) VW EA855 evo-R5 unit into the Golf R. It then proceeded to boost it to 740 hp (552 kW) by installing in-house turbochargers and upgrading air intake, exhaust and cooling systems. With the launch control on, the car hits 260 km/h (161 mph) at the end of its half-mile run, leaving behind even the previous-gen RS6 Avant.
The test vehicle shown here additionally sports enormous ceramic brakes, expensive aftermarket wheels and low suspension.
