The performance-laden Volkswagen Golf R hasn’t even properly premiered yet, but the camera crowd has already exposed its estate/wagon version to the world at large. Let’s see what’s new and exciting.
As a performance car, this Golf R boasts quad tailpipes, larger-than-usual wheels, vivid-blue brake calipers and a silver rear bumper frame reminiscent of the stilted Golf Alltrack.
Like its hatchback brother, the wagon will be getting a body kit consisting of an intricately designed front bumper, a spoiler, a rear diffuser and side sills. It will house sports seats, a special trim and a steering wheel with a paddle shifter.
The new R will arrive packing a 333hp (248kW) two-liter turbo-four engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive.
The Volkswagen Golf R hatchback (see video) will debut later this year, while its family-friendly counterpart will probably linger in pre-production until the next one.
