Volkswagen has taken its updated VW Golf R Variant wagon out on a series of driving tests – and not just to the streets in general, but to the dreaded Nürburgring Circuit. It looks like the production car may be coming in early 2021.
Nothing is being revealed about the tech and equipment so far, but the “R” designation clearly means the Variant will be stronger than any other current-gen Golf. It will also offer more power than any of its predecessors with the “R” badge. Despite this, Volkswagen says it is committed to creating a vehicle that will be safe and reliable to drive, and not just a family-friendly track day tool.
