Volkswagen Golf R premiere date announced

It has only been a few days since Volkswagen revealed the 300-hp Golf Mk8 GTI Clubsport, its most powerful eighth-gen Golf to date. But it won’t be long until the Golf R comes to dethrone it: the reveal date has been set on November 4, 2020.

The exterior of the hot hatch has long since ceased to be a mystery thanks to camo-free test vehicles spied back in February (take a peek into our gallery). The R sports its own bumper design, blue brake calipers and quad exhaust tips. Based on the spy shots available, the Wolfsburg-based company will also debut its family-friendly estate/wagon version.

The powertrain will likely come from the Tiguan R and Arteon R. Both use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot rated at 320 hp (240 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque, mated to a seven-speed DSG box and AWD system that can distribute torque between axles and even between the rear wheels.
