Considering how abundant the list of OEM aftermarket parts for the eighth-gen Golf hatchback is, one has to wonder why shorter suspension springs didn’t make the cut. Well, as is the tradition in such cases, H&R fills in the gap where manufacturers cannot.
A while ago, the German suspension gurus launched lowering spring kits for most high-end Golf variants, including R and GTI. The kits revealed today are coilovers compatible with the standard Golf, as well as its GTI and GTD cousins. There are six variants in total, and determining which one you need requires knowing your car’s year of manufacture, engine type, suspension type, and some other details.
2019 Golf owners will notice the most difference after replacing springs: the lowering will amount to 30-40 mm (1.2-1.6 inches) at the front and 30-50 mm (1.2-1.8 inches) in the back. The 2020 Golf can be dropped by only 20-30 mm (0.8-1.2 inches) front and 15-30 mm (0.6-1.2 inches) rear. The price of the kit is the same for all versions at €615.
Aside from making your car look cool, H&R springs will reduce side-rolling and improve cornering, the company claims.
