Few would argue that the Volkswagen Golf was one of the world’s most popular cars in its time. It still enjoys plenty of that popularity nowadays, especially in Eastern Europe. You can often see older generations on the streets there, including the Mk3, Mk2 and even Mk1. Simple, reliable and tuning-friendly – what’s not to love?
The example in the video is a Mk2 Golf tuned to hit the wheels with 509 PS (502 hp / 374 kW). The upgrade is extensive and involves many replacements, with the owner claiming he spent 18 years working on the car. He adds that there is still more to be done until he considers the project complete, though.
The footage comes from celebrity driver Misha Charoudin, who rides shotgun as the Golf hits the North Loop. It then reveals itself as a capable racecar, holding the track in a firm grip and making impressively fast corners thanks to an aero kit and upgraded suspension.
We would say the sight is as scary as it is impressive. What about you?
