Check out an insane VW Golf doing a handstand

VeeDubRacing on YouTube has posted drag racing footage from a showdown between a short-wheelbase blue bus and a seriously modified Volkswagen Golf MkII.

The Golf has been comprehensively tuned and runs on massive Hoosier tires. It has decals all over the body and relies on an unspecified diesel engine for propulsion. The power goes to the front wheels, and there has to be a lot of it, since the hood cover can no longer properly lock in place.

In the video, the driver tries to warm up the tires before the race by flooring the gas and proceeding to brake after several meters. However, instead of stopping, the Golf does an improvised handstand by tearing its rear wheels off the ground and nearly toppling over. Luckily, the front bumper was enough to contain whatever leftover inertia the retro hatchback still had, and it manages to rebound into its initial position.

The driver then proceeds to make a normal drag strip run, which reveals that massive torque isn’t always a benefit.
