Witness a 420-PS VW Golf conquer the autobahn

As you probably know, the Volkswagen Golf Mk5 normally uses a 2.5-liter, five-cylinder engine rated at 170 PS (168 hp / 125 kW) that gives it a sluggish nine-second sprint and a so-so top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph). But what if we were to swap it out for a superior unit? This is exactly what the owner of this Golf did.

In the latest video by AutoTopNL, the fifth-generation Golf runs on Audi RS3 engine power and makes 420 PS (414 hp / 309 kW). Predictably enough, it drives nothing like the original, hitting 230 km/h (143 mph) rather effortlessly.

Other cars on the German speedway proceed to free up the left lane for the Golf, and it soon hits 242 km/h (150 mph). The important lesson, however, is that engine isn’t everything: the same 2.5-liter five-cylinder mill lets the latest Audi RS3 accelerate to 300 km/h (186 mph).
