Volkswagen has revealed when it is going to unveil the Golf VIII facelift. The premiere will take place in late January, coinciding with the celebration of the best-selling hatchback’s 50th anniversary, and the sales will start in spring.
There is still very little known about the restyling, but VW says that both the appearance and the powertrain options will be revised. A new infotainment system with next-generation software is also high up the list.
A while ago, VW published a single black-and-white teaser of the car that barely revealed anything besides new headlights/DRLs. Still, given how popular the current Golf is, we expect the facelift to fiddle around with the bumpers and lights and leave the rest alone. For the interior, we’d expect the same changes as in the latest Passat and Tiguan. That, and manual transmission may no longer make it to the market.
The GTI version of the Golf will receive its own update by mid-year, likely getting the same range of improvements. It is also worth noting that the impending refresh might end up being the last in the history of the Golf, as its ninth generation could very well be replaced by an EV.
