Half a century ago, on March 29, 1974, the main Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg, Germny has produced the first Golf hatchback in history.
The model laid the foundation for the company’s continued success in the automotive industry and single-handedly founded a new market segment. In October 1976, Volkswagen reported producing its 1,000,000th Golf, and the number has since passed 37,000,000 across eight generations, 20,000,000 of them manufactured in Wolfsburg.
