Volkswagen announces the ‘hottest’ Golf

Volkswagen AG announced earlier today that it was working on a performance version of the Golf GTI TCR hatchback, along with revealing several early sketches of the vehicle. The premiere will take place at the GTI Austria.

We don’t know very much about the newcomer at the moment, except that it is going to be driven by a two-liter turbocharged gasoline engine good for 290 hp (216 kW) and 370 Nm (273 lb*ft) of torque. The engine will connect to a DGS box and a diff lock.

As a ‘hot hatch’, the Golf GTI TCR will feature lowered ride height, a performance body kit and heavy-duty brakes with bright-colored brake supports.

No acceleration data is available right now, but one would expect the car to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than five seconds no matter what. Its theoretical top going speed is going to lie around 265 km/h (165 mph), but that is going to be subject to a hard limit.
