As you probably know, unsprung mass plays a major role in the design of any true sports car. But while supercar makers can afford minimizing it, producers of mass-market hot hatches rarely bother. JM Car Design comes to the rescue of those who wanted their Golf to ride on lightweight rims.
The Golf depicted here is a previous, seventh-generation GTI model equipped with Cor.Speed Kharma flow-formed alloy rims sized 19x8.5 inches. Shod in 225/35 R19 rubber, the asymmetrical dual-five-spoke wheels weigh around 10 kilos (22 pounds) each, which is definitely a good reduction in unsprung weight. Furthermore, their silver finish just looks great against a gloss-black body with few other accents in sight.
Elsewhere, the hotter hatch packs a Milltek exhaust system and benefits from KW Variant 3 suspension adjustable in terms of both height and stiffness. The car rides 45 mm (1.8 inches) lower at the front end and 40 mm (1.6 inches) lower at the rear axle.
