Volkswagen currently marks its particularly powerful electric cars with a dedicated ‘GTX’ badge (see video). However, as it turns out now, the company has no intention to scrap the GTI nameplate – not even when it gets rid of the last ICE car and goes full-on electric.
According to CarBuzz, the Patent Bureau of Germany has just received an application for a redesigned GTI logo apparently meant for installation of EVs. Having said that, the automaker itself hasn’t commented on it yet, so the true purpose of the updated trademark remains unknown.
One theory that sounds plausible is that the German automaker plans to ditch the GTX badge and replace it with the more recognizable GTI logo. Another guess is that Volkswagen may want to put the updated nameplate on performance hybrids and keep the GTX designation exclusively for BEVs.
