The first Volkswagen R vehicle in history celebrates turning 20 years old this year, so the company will be issuing a special edition of the Mk8 Golf R to celebrate the milestone.
Prices remain to be announced. The most important change arguably concerns the engine, which gets a boost from its original 320 metric horsepower to 333 (316 to 328 hp; 235 to 245 kW, respectively). At the same time, the engine gets a special feature that enables drivers to rev it up to 2,500 RPM before the launch.
The standard specification already includes the R-Performance package with a new spoiler and additional drive modes, as well as a top speed increase to 270 km/h (174 mph). The standard Golf R maxes out at 250 km/h (155 mph).
A glance at the 20 Years Edition lets you recognize it by the side mirror housings offset in a different finish and 19-inch wheels. The interior features special branding all around, carbon fiber trim details, and sport seats wearing a luxury trim.
