Delta4x4 considers releasing a hardcore Golf R off-roader

An AWD hot hatch named Volkswagen Golf Country went on sale in Europe in the distant year 1985. Built by Steyr-Daimler-Puch, it featured a suspension lift and undercarriage protection. Only 7,735 units were made in total. Rewind to the present day, and Delta4x4 just revealed that it would like to make something similar – if there is a market for it.

There is no live prototype at this point – only a handful of 3D rendered images. However, the company says it will set up the production in a matter of months if it receives enough pre-orders. The proposed tuning involves lifting the latest Golf R by an extra 80 mm (3.1 inches), replacing the wheels with 18-inch aftermarket rims wrapped in off-road tires, and adding a robust roof rack on top with dual LED bars on it. Five floodlights on the hood should make driving in nighttime or bad weather even more trivial.

Other than that, it looks like there are no major modifications on the list. Delta4x4 estimates the cost of such a package at €35,000 – you could buy a Golf R-Line for slightly less in Germany. If the tuner gets at least 25 reservations, it will be able to start deliveries in 6-9 months – this is how long the design and certification processes are expected to take.
