When it first revealed the ID.X Concept last year (shown here), Volkswagen hinted that an all-electric equivalent of the Golf R named the GTX would be coming soon. As it now turns out, ‘soon’ was referring to 2023 and not the current year, as some of us believed.
Speaking at a press conference in Austria dedicated to the launch of the ID.5 model, VW representative Martin Hube said the GTX would be based on the facelifted ID.3 and come to the market in 2023.
The new ID.3 GTX will join the performance EV lineup already populated by such entries as the ID.4 GTX and ID.5 GTX (see video). The addition of a front-mounted electric motor will make it an all-wheel-drive vehicle. The concept had a rather capable powertrain rated at 329 PS (324 hp / 242 kW), but the production car will likely be less powerful than that.
