In Volkswagen’s latest press release, the company confirms its intention to stop producing gas-powered R cars after the 2030, phasing them out completely with electric vehicles.
The company says it is dedicated to a gradual revision of its portfolio and introduction of new R-series performance cars running on battery power.
It remains unannounced what models will be the first to populate the lineup, but rumors say the ID.3, ID.4 and ID.5 are the best candidates so far. As of right now, the GTX is the best spec you can get in the ID family.
Volkswagen currently has four R cars on sale, including one hybrid – the Touareg PHEV.
