The Volkswagen Group Supervisory Board has shared its operational plans for the next couple of years. Apparently, the automaker no longer intends to build a whole new factory to produce its next flagship EV provisionally called the Trinity, reports Automotive News Europe quoting Reuters and Bloomberg.
The automotive giant had originally planned to build a separate industrial complex next to its Wolfsburg HQ, but later reckoned that it would do without one. The Trinity EV production will take place at the existing site in Zwickau, where the company is producing its other MEB-based vehicles – the VW ID.3, ID.4 and ID.5, Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron, Cupra Born, and Bentley/Lamborghini bodywork.
In turn, the Wolfsburg site will specialize in producing the all-electric VW Golf and its Cupra-badged sportier version. Both will utilize an innovative platform known as the SSP and will appear in the showrooms by the end of the current decade. In 2025, the next-gen Tiguan Allspace will enter production in Wolfsburg followed by an all-electric version of the standard Tiguan model in 2026.
As for the factory in Osnabrück, it will be producing the all-electric descendant of the Porsche 718.
