Volkswagen has a sub-$35k EV in the plans for the USA

According to a Senior VP of VW Group of America as quoted by Reuters, Volkswagen plans to introduce a truly affordable electric vehicle in the United States in three or four years.

In order to keep the base price under $35,000, the company counts on receiving tax incentives from the U.S. government. It also hopes to be able to localize the production either in the USA or Mexico. There are existing Volkswagen facilities in both countries, so it should be possible. A new traction battery plant is also scheduled for construction in Canada.

Right now, the Volkswagen ID.4 (shown in the gallery and the video here) is the cheapest EV in the USA right now, starting close to $39,000.
