Around 6,000 fully electric Volkswagen and Audi cars are sitting idle on a dedicated parking lot for assembled vehicles in Essen, Germany.
The workers servicing the site told the reporters that many cars had stood there for at least six months, and some much longer than that. Making the situation worse is the fact that new EVs keep arriving on a regular basis, the workers said.
As Europe is going through an EV market crisis right now with subsidies and tax incentives getting revoked and electric car prices steadily on the rise, such stockpiling may continue for a while. It remains to be seen what the automakers choose to do to mitigate the situation – if anything.
