Samsung SDI pledges guilty of making fire-prone EV batteries

Samsung SDI, a major traction battery vendor based in South Korea, has formally assumed the responsibility for producing power cells that caused sudden fires in numerous hybrids and BEVs around the world.

Many Audi, Ford, Jeep and Volkswagen vehicles are affected. In the United States alone, 180,196 units were recalled over battery concerns.

Making things worse is the fact that Samsung SDI still hasn’t tracked the problem down to a single faulty design element. For all we know, it could be a complex issue arising from multiple factors. Right now, there is no guaranteed solution or software fix that would eliminate the fire risk.
