Volkswagen’s next SUV EV has on skateboard in the trunk

Volkswagen has torn the wraps off its next big design study, the ID.5 GTX Xcite. Compared to the production ID.5 model, it sports exterior and interior modifications and has an electric skateboard lying in the trunk.

According to the company, 14 best interns of the VW Sachsen Tech Academy spent a year working on the car. It ended up with a unique body kit consisting of extended wheel arches, new fenders and side sills. The body was given a paint-over in matte VW and Lamborghini colors, and 22-inch wheels were put into the arches.

The interior is awash with Alcantara and vegan-friendly leather and sports embroidered seat middles and door cards. The headrests bear an emblem composed of the letters ‘ID’ and the number 8, referencing the eighth such concept car built by the students of the academy. An audio system with a subwoofer and ten satellites built from Bang & Olufsen, Gladen and Musway components is also on board.

The electric skateboard, according to the team responsible for the project, comes in handy when you need to leave the car at a parking lot and get to your destination quickly.

Nothing was said about mass production during the reveal, and we are certain that the car will forever remain what it is now – a design study.
