VW ID.7 fares on par with VW Passat at moose-dodging

Spanish magazine km77.com has published a test report and a video featuring Volkswagen’s electric ID.7. The crossover has technically failed the test with the best achieved speed of 74 km/h (46 mph), just 3 km/h (1.7 miles) below requirement.

The latest Volkswagen Passat had previously demonstrated the same result, so the two can be seen as comparable in situations requiring fast reactions from the driver. The ID.7 tested was a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive spec equipped with a 286-PS (282 hp / 210-kW) motor and an 82-kWh battery pack. It rode on 20-inch wheels shod in Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires and weighed 2,172 kg (4,788 lbs).

The test driver admitted that the car was completely unfamiliar to him prior to the test, but nonetheless managed to pass it on his first attempt at the 74 km/h mentioned above. He then tried to raise the speed to the required 77 km/h (47.7 mph), but kept hitting traffic cones. Judging by the video, the SUV suffered from quite a bit of understeer further complicated by aggressive and not always desirable ADAS intervention.

The crew then performed a slalom test, ending up with the best result of 23.8 seconds. In this regard, the ID.7 proved to be on par with the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 and one-tenth of a second faster than the electric BMW i5 saloon. It is worth mentioning that the i5 fared worse at the moose test, too.
