VW ID. Buzz set to appear in public ahead of premiere

The all-electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz will celebrate its international debut on March 9. However, while its passenger variant will wait until the premiere, the commercial van will make an appearance at the SXSW Festival in the United States starting later today.

The event marks the beginning of a three-year-long partnership between SXSW and the German automotive brand.

The van has MEB underpinnings and will be available in standard and long variants. In all likelihood, the entry spec will be powered by only one electric motor, while a two-motor/AWD spec will be optional. Batteries will vary in size from 48 to 111 kilowatt-hours, and opting for the largest one should yield around 550 km (342 miles) of range.

There is an important detail to point out: both the official reveal on March 9 and the SXSW debut of the commercial van will preview the European spec. The U.S. version of the van will be revealed later and only go on sale in North America in the second half of 2023.
