VW ID. Buzz goes pickup-shaped on a teaser pic

Volkswagen has used the International Design Day-2022 as an opportunity to reimagine its ID. Buzz compact van as a pickup truck. The company did mention plans to launch an all-electric truck someday, but never said when or whether it would be based on the I.D. Buzz.

The sketch shows a vehicle that looks just like the concept van from five years ago, which later evolved into an all-electric successor to the legendary T1 and T2 models. However, the rear end appears completely new and original.

The truck sports shortened rear doors and a plastic-lined bed with tall walls, which spans around one-third of its total length. The top is partially removable, and there is an access step in front of a rear wheel for easy bed access.

The automaker called the sketch a design study and admitted that many wild ideas are born before a car finishes its way from concept to production.

The production-ready Volkswagen ID. Buzz (shown elsewhere in our gallery) debuted last month in MPV and LCV variants. Both use a single electric motor capable of 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW), which drives the rear axle. According to the manufacturer, other versions should become available later, including a long-wheelbase one and a few more powerful editions.
