Volkswagen ID.Buzz gets a flagship AWD spec in Europe

Volkswagen has unveiled the ID.Buzz GTX, a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive spec of the minivan packing nearly twice as much power as the standard version. Sales in Europe will begin in the second half of 2024.

The ID.Buzz is available in two main flavors – five-seater with standard wheelbase length and stretched seven-seater. Both are now obtainable in the GTX spec. The two e-motors hit the wheels with 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW) in either case. The main difference is in the battery size. The short MPV gets 79 kWh and the longer one gets 86 kWh. Their respective ranges are still unknown, though. Volkswagen only says that charging up from 20 to 80% takes less than 30 minutes.

The flagship spec sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.5 seconds and reaches its limit at 160 km/h (99 mph). The company emphasizes that, aside from rapid acceleration, this lineup is capable of carrying heavier loads – up to 1,800 kilograms, or 3,968 pounds.

You will be able to tell the GTX spec from the standard by its different body kit, wheels sized up to 21 inches large, and exclusive body finishes. For the interior, buyers can choose from multiple dark color schemes (even the ceiling is black) with red accents. Power-adjustable sport seats and an upgraded infotainment system are included as standard features. The infotainment benefits from a faster CPU, a larger 12.9-inch display and an optimized voice assistant with some ChatGPT features built in. Dimmable panoramic roof is a premium option.
