The SAIC-Volkswagen joint enterprise has posted some photos of its next big reveal, a full-size crossover known as the ID Era 8X. It will slot in right under the ID Era 9X flagship that’s been on sale in the country since late April (see video).
On the exterior side of things, the models look so closely related that you can easily confuse one for the other. The 8X is noticeably smaller, but not much. It’s 5,020 mm (197.6 inches) long, 1,997 mm (78.6 inches) wide and 1,750 mm (68.9 inches) tall with 2,970 mm (116.9 inches) between the axles.
That’s only 180 mm (7.1 inches) shorter than the 9X, with a 100-mm (3.9-inch) difference in the wheelbase. According to China’s Patent Office data, the 8X will be available with 20- and 21-inch wheels, and will tip the scales at 2,485 kilograms (5,478 lbs) with all liquids already in.
A 1.5-liter petrol engine under the hood will provide electricity for dual e-motors driving all four wheels with a combined 503 PS (496 hp / 370 kW). Depending on your chosen battery size, all-electric range will amount to either 340 or 400 kilometers (211 or 248 miles, CLTC-rated). Fill the tank, and you’ll be getting around 1,500 kilometers (932 miles) in either case.
The only interior layout confirmed so far is that of a two-row, five-seat SUV. When the Volkswagen ID Era 8X premieres on official terms, it may as well gain other options. Just when it may debut and how much it may cost remains unknown.
