Volkswagen Multivan goes through a facelift

At four years old, the Volkswagen T6 family is ripe for a slight mid-generational refresh. The company chose to start things off by giving a facelift to its priciest and perhaps least commercial MPV, the VW Multivan.

In terms of exterior appearance, the new series sports a distinctly larger radiator grille, new bumper, headlights and taillights.

Major changes have found their way inside the car as well. There are now new door cards, dashboard and steering wheel. The infotainment system now sits closer to the driver, and the air vents are now stacked one over another to the right of the multimedia display, rather than occupying both sides.

Options include a 10.25-inch digital dashboard, a high-end multimedia system with voice control and SIM card support, a 230V socket etc. Just like before, there are numerous opportunities for interior customization.

One major new feature comes in the form of added power steering. Not only does it make driving the Volkswagen Multivan easier than before, it also unlocks access to a whole range of steering-related driver aids. These include, among others, parking assist, lane control, and trailer back-up assist.

Customers in Europe will be able to purchase the facelifted MPV with a two-liter turbocharged diesel engine available in several versions ranging from 90 to 199 hp (67 to 148 kW). An all-electric variant will also appear in the lineup in the future. ABT, professional car tuner and VW partner, has already unveiled an experimental Multivan build armed with an electric motor rated at 112 hp (84 kW).

The facelifted series will arrive in showrooms in the fall of 2019.
