Volkswagen’s commercial transports division has shared more information about the upcoming T7 Multivan model and its eHybrid powertrain.
Apparently, the passenger version of the van will get an option to go all-electric, which will be limited to a relatively low speed and will work only as long as there is enough battery charge. It will be automatically deactivated as soon as you floor the accelerator, too. The exact speed cap was not mentioned.
The company also revealed that the battery will be mounted under the floor to maximize interior space. Other specifics remain to be announced, but we expect the hybrid system to be based on a 1.4-liter petrol engine rated close to 245 PS (242 hp / 180 kW). VW has a few lower-end hybrid systems in the lineup as well, but putting one under the hood of the large and heavy Multivan would be odd.
Stay tuned for the official premiere next month.
