German tuning shop B&B AutomobilTechnik has found a way to boost the Volkswagen Beetle all the way to 380 hp (283 kW) and 525 Nm (387 lb-ft) of torque, thus beating the latest Golf R with its 310 hp (231 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft).
Beetle Convertible 2.0 TSI owners can choose from three available upgrades. The Stage 1 kit adds 80 hp (60 kW) and 80 Nm (59 lb-ft) to the stock values, which translates into 300 hp (224 kW) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) in absolute terms. It costs slightly below €1,500.
The Stage 2 kit promises an extra 106 hp (79 kW) along with 110 Nm (81 lb-ft), resulting in 326 hp (243 kW) and 460 Nm (339 lb-ft) total. It will set you back €3,950.
Finally, the Stage 3 upgrade is the most extensive of all three, including a new turbocharger, improved cooling and ECU remapping. It brings along a surplus of 160 hp (120 kW) and 175 Nm (129 lb-ft) and costs a hefty €9,950. Outfitted like this, the Beetle scuttles from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in respectable 5.2 seconds.
Among other things, B&B AutomobilTechnik also offers a sports exhaust system, stiffer in-house-designed suspension springs (-30mm / -1.2” ride height), stronger brakes and 20-inch wheels for the model.
